Born in Barlornock, Glasgow 1970. Studied photography at college 1995-1996 - also received photographic training (non-clinical) from a friend employed as a senior medical illustrator. It is from this period that the infrared torso image dates. 1998-2005, artist/photographer in commercial art studio and gallery. 2005-2006, Art and Design Portfolio course at college. I use manual-focus 35mm SLR and auto-focus, compact cameras. Residence: Glasgow, Scotland.

The themes of the work are emotionally complex, involving a history of personal experiences. An image confronts our [accepted] values of society as individually held and defined. These images also suggest overtones of hostility. In many respects, the images manifest are represented and interpreted by the artist via an alter-ego. As well as the tendency of the artist’s own attitude towards the body, (self-cutting a means to communicate silence, and as a destructive antipathy) earlier work also questions identity socially, to consider gender and sexuality.

My art involves symbolism. I’m very interested in the metaphysics of the ‘human condition,’ the individual in society, and what it means to be ‘existent’ . . . to exist as human.

In 2008, I’m exploring by use of performance - a personal project ‘Paths to Suffering’ to embark on the question. . . What is suffering?

I have an existing academic background in the Arts and Social Sciences, and Social Sciences; having had published and exhibited polemic/photographic essays on: the holocaust, medical & psychiatric institutions, and mental illness. I’m currently studying from Sep 07, an introduction course in Forensic Photography at University.
